Job Description: 

Job Summary

  • Carry out welding, cutting, grinding and basic fabrication activities under supervision and in line with approved drawings and work instructions.
  • Support welding repair and fabrication of workshop metal components such as frames, skids, racks, baskets, pipes and plates.
  • Prepare materials, tools and welding equipment safely before starting assigned work and escalate issues to the Supervisor/ Manager.

Key Accountabilities

  • Work safely at all times and comply with PPE, hot-work, housekeeping and workshop safety requirements.
  • Perform assigned welding duties using approved manual or semi-automatic welding equipment, including GMAW/ MIG and SMAW/ stick where authorized.
  • Follow basic drawings, measurements, job cards, welding procedures and supervisor instructions before commencing work.
  • Prepare parts for welding by cleaning, cutting, fitting, grinding and positioning components as required.
  • Carry out welding repairs and fabrication on small and medium components while maintaining acceptable quality and dimensional accuracy.
  • Complete basic visual checks of finished welds and immediately report defects, dimensional issues, unsafe conditions or material concerns.
  • Maintain welding machines, grinders, hand tools and accessories in clean and serviceable condition and report maintenance needs.
  • Support safe handling and storage of welding consumables, gas cylinders, materials and completed work pieces.
  • Minimize rework, material waste and non-conformance by following instructions and asking for clarification when required.
  • Adhere to Company policies, QHSE procedures and workshop rules.

Knowledge, Skills and Aptitude

  • Educational Qualifications & Certifications: 
  • High school, technical institute or vocational school certificate preferred.
  • Basic welding training or trade certificate preferred.
  • Relevant safety training for hot work, PPE and workshop tools preferred.
  • Knowledge: 
  • Basic knowledge of welding equipment, consumables, hand tools and workshop safety requirements.
  • Basic understanding of drawings, measurements, fit-up requirements and work instructions.
  • Awareness of weld quality, defect reporting, housekeeping and safe material handling.
  • Technical and General Skills: 
  • Basic GMAW/ MIG and/ or SMAW/ stick welding capability under supervision.
  • Ability to use grinders, cutting tools, measuring tape, squares, calipers and basic fabrication tools.
  • Ability to prepare, fit and tack components before welding.
  • Basic computer literacy for job reporting, where required.
  • Language Skills: Basic English communication skills preferred for reading work instructions, safety signs and job documentation.
  • Experience: 
  • 2-3 years of hands-on welding or fabrication experience preferred, preferably in an industrial workshop environment.
  • Exposure to equipment repair, skids, racks, frames, pipes, plates or similar metal structures is preferred.
